W. Norman Scott

W. Norman Scott, MD, FACS, is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center and Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Marshall University. He is a Founding and the Senior Director of the Insall Scott Kelly Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He is the Program Director of the ACGME accredited ISK Adult Reconstruction Fellowship which began in 1991. He is affiliated with NYU Langone Medical Center.

He has previously served as Chief of Orthopedics at Beth Israel North Hospital (1996-1998) and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center (1998-2004). He received his undergraduate degree (BS) from the University of Pennsylvania and his MD degree from Cornell University Medical College. His orthopedic training was at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Scott is a founding member and past President of the Knee Society (1996) and Director of the Insall Travelling Fellowship Program (2001-Present). In addition to membership in numerous orthopaedic societies and participation in leadership roles in the AAOS (e.g., Summer Institute Committee 1985-1992), Dr Scott has served on several editorial boards such as the Journal of Arthroplasty (1987-present), American Journal of Knee Surgery, and the Journal of Orthopaedic Techniques. Dr Scott has also been chairman of approximately 25 CME courses inclusive of Knee Joint Reconstruction and Sports Medicine. He is the Founding CEO and President of ICJR (International Congress of Joint Reconstruction), a philanthropic educational community committed to joint arthroplasty and reconstruction, (2008-present).

Dr Scott is a frequent lecturer (over 400 national and international presentations), and publisher of scientific articles (over 100 peer reviewed) and books (17). These orthopaedic research efforts pertain mostly to Knee Joint Replacements and Sports Medicine, the scope of his clinical practice.

Professionally, Dr. Scott has served as the Head Team Physician for the New York Knicks (1978 -2005), the New York Rangers (1980-1987), and as the Orthopaedic Consultant for the NY Liberty (1997-2005). He was the Team Physician for the 1992 US Olympic Basketball Team (The “original” Dream Team) and previous President of the NBA Physician’s Association. He is also the past president of the NBA Physicians Association. He also served as the Head Physician for the 79th Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) Championship (1997), United States Open Championship (1993) and the US Women’s Curtiss Cup (1990).
